Vision
Project description Open Call NOA 2020
Our project is about the tension between protection and freedom and its implementation in a poetic form.
The wing fruits of the maple tree serve as symbols. Most of us have known wing fruits from childhood. Who doesn't enjoy throwing them in the air and watching them slide like a circle to the ground? These wing fruits embody a carefree part of childhood, to discover the world, to have time, to live in the moment and thus, in a certain way, a moment of freedom.
Our project consists of up to 3 parts: On the one hand, we would like to install a kind of movable "swarm" made of wing fruits from the maple tree over two floors in the stairwell. This swarm is composed of wing fruits, connected with looped, silver jewelry wire, fans and loudspeakers. Whispering voices can be heard from the installation. However, this is not an understandable language. The fans move the swarm in different directions. The installation reacts to people approaching by means of motion detectors, and falls silent as soon as they come too close. The swarm leads from the lower window through the bars to the width of the upper stairwell.
3 showcases are to be set up in the lounge. Small objects are shown that deal with the subject of freedom versus security and are also designed with wing fruits.
On the balcony (2nd floor) wing crops are periodically whirled into the air by fans in an illuminated, transparent cylinder so that they can then sail to the ground with the rotation that is typical for them. The installation is designed so that it is visible from the street and arouses the curiosity of passers-by.
